The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil was established in 2004 to promote the production and use of sustainable palm oil with benefits for people, planet and prosperity. Palm oil producers are certified through strict verification of the production process to the stringent RSPO Principles & Criteria for Sustainable Palm Oil Production by accredited Certifying Bodies.
Certified Sustainable Palm Oil is palm oil that was certified according to specific social and environmental criteria. By respecting those criteria, we can help to reduce the negative impacts of palm oil cultivation on the environment and communities.
- No deforestation (e.g. to protect endangered species or fragile ecosystems)
- Reduced use of pesticides and fires
- Fair treatment of workers according to local and international labour rights standards
RSPO Segregated palm oil means that sustainable palm oil from different certified sources is kept separate from ordinary palm oil throughout the supply chain.
RSPO Segregated end products are consumer products in which all palm present in the product is from certified sources. This means that the used certified palm can be traced back to several certified supply bases.
Poppies International is committed to produce RSPO segregated products where possible (= as soon as the certified raw materials are available on the market)
UTZ is a program and label for sustainable farming of coffee, cocoa, tea and hazelnuts. The mission of UTZ is to create a world where sustainable farming is the norm. The UTZ program enables farmers to learn better farming methods, improve working conditions and take better care of people and the environment. The compliance with UTZ’s strict requirements by farms and businesses is closely monitored by independent third parties
When you see the UTZ cocoa logo on a product this means the company supports sustainable farming by sourcing sustainable UTZ certified cocoa.
The cocoa sector faces several challenges: poor soil fertility management, aging tree stocks, improper use of chemicals and uncontrolled deforestation are threats to the sustainability of cocoa farming.
At the same time farmers are faced with poor labor conditions and low income.
Poppies International is certified for the use of UTZ certified cocoa Mass Balance.
This means that the we ensure that all sales of UTZ certified labeled cocoa products are covered by the same volume in UTZ certified cocoa purchases. The UTZ certified cocoa physically enters the supply chain but is not physically separated from non-certified cocoa throughout the entire chain.
Poppies pursues an environmental policy in line with European and local laws and regulations. We monitor the impact of our activities on the environment and always try to reduce our ecological footprint.
