Production Locations
Since 1990, the Poppies International NV headquarters have been in Zonnebeke (Flanders,Belgium), where they are currently employing some 200 people.
The company has two production sites for ambient cakes and biscuits, producing more than 15,000 tons of finished products every year. Over 90% of these products are exported abroad.
The Zonnebeke site is used for the production and distribution of frozen desserts, puff pastry cookies, coconut pastry and crispy rolled cookies. 3 production lines are continuously used for the production of frozen desserts. The production process itself consists of different stages. Once the prepared dough leaves the bakery department, it is portioned onto a moving steel band. When the profiteroles and éclairs have been baked off, they travel through the filling department where they are injected with a fresh dairy cream filling.
Finally, they are shock frozen at temperatures of –30° and packed in appropriate packaging.

3 other production lines are used for the production of puff pastry cakes and biscuits. Under the supervision of master-baker Popelier, professional and highly skilled bakers prepare the puff pastry, which is then filled with prepared fruit jam or dipped in real Belgian chocolate. The finished products are packed with market adapted labelling and shipped.
A wide variety of coconut pastry and crispy rolled cookies make also part of the Poppies range.
Thanks to the take-over of the company Jeannette SA at Roncq in France, Poppies France, the range has been extended with the Filled Waffles.
The Poppies Group has taken over in the same year (2001) Berlidon SA in Laudun (Avignon). This company is specialised in the production of fried pastry (Donuts, Beignets, Boules de Berlin,...).
As a result of a steady growth and a well-defined management strategy, the decision was made to invest in a new site in the USA (Rocky Mount, North Carolina).
Production of frozen cream puffs and eclairs has started in October 2001. At this moment the plant employs 40 people.
